10 Life-Changing Beauty Products You Need To Try ASAP

ooooo I LOve this

1. L’Oreal Colorista Semi-Permanent Hair Color is basically the easiest at-home solution for blondes (or bleached hair folks) who want to add a fresh pop of color to their ‘dos.

Maitland Quitmeyer / BuzzFeed

I wanted a little bit of a hair change this summer, but in a I-don’t-want-to-spend-money kind of way. Also without bleaching my whole head of hair. So when I stumbled across this L’Oreal Colorista Semi-Permanent Hair Color, I just had to try it. It’s $8.51 on Amazon and comes in seven colors for blonde, light brown, or bleached hair, and four colors for brunette hair! I am, like many people, weirdly obsessed with pink right now, so I went with the color “Soft Pink.”

It comes with a bottle of the color itself, a brush to apply it, and a bunch of gloves so your hands don’t turn pink. But the brush is totally not necessary — I just applied it with my gloved hands. I didn’t exactly follow the directions and it STILL WORKED. Really well. I didn’t shampoo my hair first like they said I should, but I thought that would have taken too long. Because I really ~massaged~ it into my hair and left it on longer (45+ minutes) than I “should” have, it faded to the color on the box after 2-3 washes. Which totally works for me because I loved the stronger pink color AND the faded pastel. And that means less reapplying and less product used overall. AKA even less $$$. And I have been feeling the finished result — so much so that I’ll keep touching it up as it fades this summer. If you have blonde or bleached hair and want some color, definitely try this. If you have brown hair, try one of their four colors designed for brunettes! At under $10 a bottle, it’s definitely worth a shot. —Maitland Quitmeyer

2. Cetaphil Men Daily Face Wash proves that — despite the constant onslaught of trendy products with ~unique~ ingredients — sometimes the simplest products are the most reliable and effective.

Kevin Smith / BuzzFeed

I started using Cetaphil Men’s Face Wash after I had to get a procedure done at the dermatologist. I couldn’t use any of my normal face washes (Clinique Charcoal Wash, Kiehl’s Anti-Oil Wash, and not even my beloved Foreo Exfoliator — full review on that here). I was pretty bummed to have to switch to Cetaphil to be honest, because I was ignorant and didn’t know really anything about it. But now, after six months, I’m never going back. Cetaphil Men’s is slightly different from the regular Cetaphil formula because it foams up a little more — which I like — and has a slightly different fragrance. My skin has never felt better. It’s less oily, has remained pretty clear (only two pimples in six months), and my face is generally left feeling fresh without being too dry. I could go on and on about Cetaphil, but just know that the simplest product is often the best. It gets the job done. 3. Brazilian Blowout Anti-Frizz Shampoo & Conditioner is a sulfate-free duo that keeps frizz at bay without leaving your hair feeling weighed-down or greasy.

Every couple of months I get a Brazilian blowout treatment to relax my hair and prevent it from getting too frizzy. Whenever I do this I have to start using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, which in the past has left my hair feeling and looking greasy. I recently got another Brazilian blowout treatment and my hairdresser recommended this Brazilian Blowout shampoo and conditioner and it is life-changing! It doesn't make my hair feel oily or look damaged. The key is to make sure you rinse your hair thoroughly, especially with the conditioner. But you certainly won't regret this. —Samantha WiederGet the duo from Amazon for $38.99.

4. Pony Effect Stay Fit Matte Lip Color (in So Good) is a subtle purple that isn’t too out-there and excellent for matching with purple hair (or any color hair, lol).

I love lipstick. I am an incomplete person without it. Emphasis on incomplete. While I 100% believe there are no rules when it comes to lipstick, I've been hesitant to wear some of my normal go-to lippies after dying my hair purple. I still wear them (they're my bbs, duh!), but there must be other colors that better compliment my current hair.I've tried a Pony Effect Matte Lipstick prior to this one (Incredible, a typical blue-red), but So Good is the color that actually sold me on this line. I love my pinks and reds, but I rarely wear purple (the sole purple I own is considerably darker, so I wear it sparingly). So Good is technically marketed as a "purplish pink" but it's definitely more purple on me, almost like a mauve. Not too dark, not too light, and doesn't try to compete with my hair (aka make me look like a overload of color). It's not super drying and doesn't wear away in patches and mostly stays put during meals. Whatever hair color I try next (or if I go back to black so I can stress less), I'll definitely be keeping this easy-to-pull-off purple in my daily rotation. —Sarah HanGet it from Amazon for $19 (available in ten colors).

5. Aquation Daily Moistuizing Lotion gently wraps your skin in a blanket of non-greasy, quick-absorbing hydration — with no fragrance or harsh chemicals to boot!

As the very wise High School Musical cast once sang: “What time is it? SUMMERTIME!” And while I can’t wait to get sand-trapped in my bathing suit bottoms, I’ve been bracing myself for the worst. Dilemma? Even though I’ll be sweating from now until late August, my skin will somehow remain very dry. I’ve basically been on the prowl for a lotion that’s lightweight but effective and, luckily, I was able to find just that in a miracle bottle known as Aquation. Aquation Daily Moisturizing Lotion is a non-comedogenic (aka doesn't block your pores and cause blackheads) product that can be used on both your body and face and promises long-lasting moisture without any greasy residue. The first time I used this was post-shower, after a string of very warm days in New York; I dried off, applied this product like I would any other lotion, and it managed to dry within seconds. Also, the heat had resulted in me sweating very, very much, so I came home to discover a few bumps on my back and chest — pimples. Yuck. BUT! After using this lotion, I noticed that the pimples just vanished. Like, completely went away. Conclusion: This stuff is awesome. There are no overpowering fragrances involved, it keeps back or chest breakouts at bay, and my skin stays soft and hydrated all day. This is the perfect summer product. —Anamaria GlavanGet it from Amazon for $7.94.

6. Moroccan Oil Curl Control Mousse keeps your curls looking totally soft, fabulous, and intact in the face of dreaded humidity.

Ignacia Fulcher / BuzzFeed

Moroccan Oil Curl Control Mousse is the truth, and I don’t say that lightly. I had been looking for something to shield my curly hair from the humidity for a while, and when I happened upon this product I was honestly dubious. When I say that I take my hair very seriously, I mean it. I’m also very particular with products I put in my hair since I’m natural, and I have a process that I tend not to deviate from if it gives me the curl I want.

Anyway, when I first put the mousse in my hair I was pleasantly surprised at how effective it was getting into the coil that I wanted without being stiff! Usually mousse makes my hair super crunchy, which is another reason why I try to stay away from it. With the curl control, it was still soft, supple, and totally touchable! Another thing I highly appreciated was that it didn’t shrink my curls. I twist my hair at night to give it the curl that I like for the next day — and that includes the length, because like other naturals, I suffer from the dreaded shrinkage, which means that when my hair is faced with water, it shrinks into a tighter curl, making it appear shorter than it really is.

When I finally went outside and faced the New York City heat, my hair held up really well. It puffed a little, but my curls were really defined throughout the day, which is literally all I’ve ever asked from a mousse but never received until now. To say that I was shook was an understatement. All in all I love this mousse, and if you’re looking for a product to keep your curly hair in place, while also leaving it as silky and soft as a baby’s bottom, I’d give it a try! —Ignacia Fulcher

7. Clinique Acne Solutions BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 40 will forever change your relationship with (cystic) acne — it gives you amazing all-day coverage and prevents new breakouts. That’s right, it’s makeup-and-skincare magic.

Sarah Wainschel / BuzzFeed

I’ve had pretty bad cystic acne for the past eight years and have tried everything short of Accutane and expensive, scary lasers to get rid of it. In an act of desperation following a particularly bad breakout, I decided to give Clinique’s Acne Solutions BB Cream (in the shade Light) a try, and let me tell you, IT CHANGED MY WHOLE LIFE. If I could legally marry a beauty product, this would be the one I’d choose. Not only does it look more natural than a regular foundation, it literally PREVENTS new zits from forming on your face. I’ve only been using it for three weeks (every morning in place of my usual foundation, which was clogging my pores) and I already see a significant improvement in my complexion. I usually apply it with my hands and then add a bit of concealer to some of the more ~aggressive~ acne scars around my chin for a little more coverage. The formula is pretty liquid-y so just a pea-sized drop is all you need! I haven’t gotten a nodule or a cyst in over three weeks, which is an actual freaking miracle in my book. I’ve had a few whiteheads pop up here and there but they disappeared more quickly than normal, so I ain’t complaining!

Even if you don’t suffer from acne, I cannot recommend this product enough. It’s super lightweight, prevents oil buildup, and keeps you covered all day long. Plus, it contains SPF 40 to protect you from those harmful rays when you’re out in the sun, which makes it great for summer! Bottom line: acne fucking sucks, but this shit is legit magical. —Sarah Wainschel

8. Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner looks fab when worn solo for the perfect dose of summer color that won’t melt off your face or bleed.

Elizabeth Lilly / BuzzFeed

Summer living as someone who loves to wear makeup is brutal anywhere, but my skin is also oily AF, I sweat profusely, and most days I feel like my makeup is slowly melting into a sludge while I commute to work on a crowded subway. (Don’t even mention tinted moisturizer. It’s not a fix-all for everyone!) One morning a few weeks ago I applied Sephora Rouge Gel Lip Liner in 02 Nothin’ But Nude as a prep for liquid lipstick when I realized it looked quite nice solo. I went with it and had to reapply a bit after lunch, but didn’t have to worry about any color bleeding or ending up on my chin while eating a sandwich. (Somehow I’ve mastered eating a cupcake while wearing red lipstick, but not a sandwich.)

The next day I stopped by my local Sephora and bought the same liner in 03 Rose Wine and 23 Pardon My French. The stuff is moisturizing, easy to apply, and comes with a built-in sharpener that, tbh, you don’t really need. It even works great as a base for lipstick, as intended! In short, it’s about as low-maintenance as it gets. I even wore it to a friend’s birthday party at a sweaty dive bar (like, a real one with bars on the window and no A/C) when I struck up a convo with my friend Katie, who has beautiful olive skin that tans way darker than I could ever dream of for my own. We realized we were both wearing the 03 Rose Wine alone as a mere coincidence and it looked great on BOTH of us. Sure, I’ll have to replenish my beauty arsenal faster than with a regular lipstick, but I don’t mind. —Elizabeth Lilly

9. Pacifica Rainbow Crystals Liquid Highlighter gives off the most ethereal glow (as subtle or intense as you want) and will most likely turn you into a fly-as-hell Coachella queen.

Christina Lan / BuzzFeed

Pacifica’s Strobing Highlighter (in Crystal Moon) will give you a glow like no other. Look, if you want something subtle, this is it. If you want something that’s a little extra (because you deserve it!), this is also it. It’s a nice bridge between reality and fantasy. Admittedly, I don’t really know how to “make-up,” but this liquid crystal makes me feel capable. It’s a gateway product that transforms you from garage-band practice to Coachella royalty. If we were made of glass, it would turn us into those prism window ornaments that mesmerized us as kids. There’s really not that much else to it, but if you’re curious about trying a different kind of highlighter, go with this one over a powder compact of leftover pigments and refrigerator dust. —Christina Lan

10. O.R.G Oxygen Cleanser is a travel-friendly gentle spritz that foams on contact with skin to lift away makeup, dirt, and oil while and keeps your skin lookin’ fresh and youthful.

Farrah Penn / BuzzFeed

I’ve been using the O.R.G Skincare Oxygen Cleanser for two months now and I love how fresh-faced I feel afterwards. I think I’ve unfortunately gotten used to that uncomfortable, tight feeling many cleansers leave after washing, but this doesn’t leave your skin feeling sucked of all moisture. Plus it does a REALLY great job of removing sweat, oils, and makeup. I have super sensitive skin and it hasn’t welcomed any unwanted pimples or rashes (praise be!). This stuff also contains hydrolyzed collagen, which I think is a fancy way of saying my skin looks firm and youthful after washing — and it does.

An added bonus is that it’s a perfect travel size, so you can just pop that baby into your ziplock bag and bring it through security without issues. The bottle looks tiny, but I’m going on month three and I still haven’t ran out. I truly appreciate a product that involves a little going a long way. —Farrah Penn
